I used to love travelling down at midnight to make phone calls, say hi to the store aunties (my mom owned a mini-mart years ago!) and have a smoke outside. There would be a lot of hustle and bustle by this time, loud Thai music streaming from the discos along the sides. The ‘Siam Dius’, or Thai nightclubs, always attract so many youngsters. It is sad sometimes media like to portray Golden Mile Complex in such a particular light, as if the complex is bad or something. It’s our local culture! The place represents so much history, so many memories. Just the smell is enough, let alone the bright lights and music. But it is the people and our interactions which I remember most fondly. I’m half-Thai, so that has allowed me a different experience from locals who come in to eat and party. This is home for me.
