The Tamil Digital Heritage (TDH)

The Tamil Digital Heritage (TDH) Collection you see in this section is the digital version of Singapore Tamil literature books published between 1965, when Singapore attained Independence, and 2015, when Singapore celebrated the 50th anniversary of that occasion. These books include poems, short stories, novels, plays and literary essays by Singaporeans or Singapore Permanent Residents or with content related to Singapore. This is the first time such a digital collection in Tamil has been launched by NLB. The original idea and the ground efforts for this project came from a small group of Singaporeans who mobilized community participation and resources to help realize this idea. The TDH Collection was offered to the nation as a gift from the Singapore Indian community on 22 August 2015 in the presence of Guest of Honour, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance, Mr Tharman Shanmugaratnam and Mr S Iswaran, Minister, Prime Minister’s Office and Second Minister for Home Affairs and Second Minister for Trade and Industry as well as the Patron of the TDH Project.

In addition to NLB, the principal host of this project, the National Heritage Board (NHB), the National Arts Council (NAC) and the National Book Development Council of Singapore (NBDCS) also actively supported this project. A list of all those who made this project possible is found at the Acknowledgment page here.

The print version of all the books in the digital collection are available at NLB libraries.
